What is Bikeabout?

Bikeabout bicycles are provided by Hampshire County Council and are available for the members of the public to borrow for free.

Bikeabout aims to encourage the use of cycling as a means of transport within Winchester.

Bikeabout bicycles can be borrowed for up to 24 hours and can also be borrowed for an extended trial period of one month.

When you join Bikeabout you will also receive a:

  • A free personal cycle helmet
  • A free personal reflective jacket
  • A free cycle map

Where is Bikeabout?

The Bikeabout compound is located opposite Winchester rail station, on the corner of Gladstone Street car park.

When is Bikeabout?

The Bikeabout scheme is up and running.  
Winter period opening times (0900 - 1630) are currently as follows:

  • December: Bikeabout will be closed from Friday 17th
  • January: Bikeabout will reopen Friday 7th, Saturday 8th
                                                  Friday 14th, Saturday 15th
                                                  Friday 21st, Saturday 22nd
                                                  Friday 28th, Saturday 29th
  • February: Bikeabout will be open: Friday 4th, Saturday 5th
                                                       Friday 11th, Saturday 12th
                                                       Friday 18th, Saturday 19th
  • Bikeabout times will be revised again on Monday 28th February.

                                                          

Application Information

Bikeabout bicycles are free to borrow and are available to anyone over the age of 18.

To register as a Bikeabout member you will need to complete and application form and provide a current proof of your address.

A single administration charge is payable to Hampshire County Council .

Individual membership (single user)       £15
Joint membership (two users)               £25

Multiple user membership discounts are available for three or more members.  (Prices on request)
